Financial Principles

April 6, 2009 - 11:51 pm No Comments

Some good tips from Warren Buffet on financial principles:

Spending: If you buy things you don’t need, you’ll soon sell things you need.
Savings: Don’t save what is left after spending; spend what is left after saving.
Hard work: All hard work brings profit; but mere talk leads only to poverty.
Laziness: A sleeping lobster is carried away by the water current.
Earnings: Never depend on a single source of income.
Borrowings: The borrower becomes the lender’s slave.
Accounting: It’s no use carrying an umbrella, if your shoes are leaking.
Auditing: Beware of little expenses; a small leak can sink a large ship.
Risk-taking: Never test the depth of the river with both feet.
Investment: Don’t put all your eggs in one basket

Dream Job = Air-Stewardess?

Turkish Airlines crash near Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam about a week ago. It is such a big news after the 9-11 incident. Turkish -> Europe, some may have thought it is some sort of terrorist again? And my boyfriend was in Netherlands at that time and he was about 45mins away from Amsterdam, was worried if it will effect some flight delay during the weekend when he is suppose to catch a flight back home.

Plane breaks into 3 piece!

Plane breaks into 3 pieces!

Isn’t it scary? Imagine if you were in the flight! I’m sure its all panicky, and screaming aloud, but I think prior to that I would have say my prayers quietly in my heart. Thinking back I always do that, during both take off and landing. Specially with budget airlines when things are not that stable, it always feels better after a prayer is whispered. (Haha, cos sometimes it feels like a roller-coster ride – minus the screaming :P )

Due to the time difference, it was on the newspaper frontpage on Thursday morning, only then i got to know about it. Malaysia time about 4pm only, Jack came online and got to know from him that they already knew it on Wednesday itself, as it happens NL time about 10-11am. And on Thursday morning, I was teasing one of colleague who will be departing for ICANN, Mexico on Friday nite, via KLM transit in Amsterdam, Schiphol and the crash just happened! haha…freaky :P

2.5 months ago I was at the Schiphol, Amsterdam airport too, so I could imagine the fear I would have got if this recent case just happened! In the Turkish Airline crash, if I am not mistaken none of the Cabin Crew survived, not even the pilot or co-pilot. I guess they thought everything is going to be just fine as any other day, part and parcel of their daily job, but who would have thought? “Cabin Crew, please be seated, we are preparing for landing” That’s what the Pilot/co-pilot would announce about 15mins prior to the landing. As announced today, after the Dutch investigation, “Found that faulty altimeter caused the plane’s autopilot to shut down the engines as it made its approach to land. The Boeing 737-800 crashed a kilometre short of the runway, killing nine people on board. The plane’s black box showed that the altimeter also malfunctioned during two previous landings.” (Reports extracted from “www.dw-world.de”)

So afterall, I have decided it is not a safe dream job! :D

God gives every bird a worm, but He does not throw it into the nest

Isn’t that so True? I saw this phrase in one of my friend’s MSN nick. I was thinking maybe this is what she had experienced? Or probably going through, to console and comfort herself in the midst of all the hard work she is going through.

She is a lady with strong will, great life experiences, and good PR skills I would say. With the people she mixes around with, its lucky that she has chosen the right path, at least up till now to earn hard money, though I believe temptation is high to look for easy money from “those” jobs receiving loads of tips which can come up to thousands if you’re good per night and some tycoon is interested in you. But those are just temporary while you still young and beautiful :) (This apply specially for girls, unless guys can be a toy boy to some rich, lonely, desperate housewives :P )

To those of us who are physically able, God has given us a so called Perfect body, mind and soul for us to work for ourselves and a pathway full of decision making and alternatives for us to choose from.It is so important for us to choose and make our decision wisely, because 1 wrong move can ruined your entire life specially those life decisions, like a life partner, time and money investment, etc. Sure at this young age, we can still take the risk and challenge the consequences, in fact we should sometimes in order we do not regret when we are older.

I always believe we should expose ourselves to various cultures, nature inhabitants, countries, to have a different perspective in life. This would naturally develop you as a person. However, if you do not take action and wait for money to fall from the sky, that’s a total waste of time, waste of resources, and plain laziness. So go on, make yourself useful ;)

Survival skills for New Managers – Training

November 27, 2008 - 1:16 am No Comments

stated in the brochure the venue was at Park Royal, then confirmed with the lady in-charged is at JW Marriot, when I am there, it is suppose to be at The Ritz Carlton Hotel. But luckily it is both under the YTL Group, and the hotels are both inter-connected :) It is my second time attending an event at The Ritz Carlton. To be honest, I quite like hotel finishing as well as how the staffs personalized themselves to their guest.

Speaker: Mr. Thomas Lai, who have 10 years experience as a professional trainer and another 10 years before that mainly involve in the Human Resource as well as providing training and talks. I see him as acting, I feel that he actions are not that “real”, well that’s just my judgement, he might be that “stiff” in his actions. Well, all i can say that he is a humble man, always striving to learn more and does not know how to relax and enjoy life and travel (well the last description was what he said)

Overall, the training is quite enjoyable, with activities, games given, brain teaser and a 20 minutes video, it make things interesting and not plain boring just talking with presentation slides. This is my second training that my company have sent me, this is definitely more practical then the previous. At least more information are absorb into my mind and I get to understand myself better and areas where I can improve on. The sad thing is that we did not finish 1 topic and there is this 1 topic who was quickly browse through, which I find it quite an important area for me, managing decision making skills.

Guess I just need to read it on my own, and read on the leadership skills article he have given. Overall, I will give a 7-8 for this training. Surprisingly, I think I am the youngest in the group, so alot to learn from people around you :)

Also, I met with the business owner of the training provider, what a co-incident he have proposed to my company early last week with a few other training topics he suggest to offer our office internal training :) Well, let’s wait, I hope to attend the Leadership program where I feel I should improve on.

One’s destiny is altered b’coz of the One decision

October 23, 2008 - 1:23 am No Comments

This was what is written in one of my ex-college mate’s nick in MSN and I was thinking to myself, what one decision, so serious that can alter one’s destiny? Then I thought and remembered, there is One and it only takes One decision in life to either make it or break it. You’ll either live with it happily or ruined it.

There are times in life, that you can only see the present and not able to look into the future, but we are aware every choice and every decision we make in life will have consequences. It will either face out immediately, or years to reveal to see true colors, side effects, etc.

I have seen people make impulsive decisions, decisions full of uncertainty. Where many of our decisions are influenced by our surroundings, the people we mix with, upbringing and even your loved ones. From the day you were born, your parents have made some decision for you, such as what milk powder to consume, which kindergarten to register you, primary then secondary school. For most of us who have already know what are their interest and what they want to do or courses that they would like to further their studies, then its again a decision you made and that may alter your destiny.

In society today, I have seen many relationships come and go, marriage is made so simple and with a snap of a finger you’re married. Well that works when you’re in “Cloud 9″ but after that when you see each others true colors, let’s pray that everything is going to be alright. Cos sometimes, love doesn’t really conquers all, things ain’t the way it seem to be. Well, thru movies you see happy endings but not all. Some get married, because the gf’s are pregnant and they have so call “no choice” but to take up the responsibility. But being a girl, I feel it is so helpless, when things are rush into it. Some have their ROM paper signed but no wedding ceremony yet, then 1 year down the line, they find they not suitable for each other anymore. That is when, the honeymoon period has passed, haha and they become enemies for life. That’s not all, your single life is Ruin. Thank God for those who do not have babies yet, else the innocent child will have to face either 1. Non-peaceful family 2. Divorce parents and things may get even more complicated if they re-marry and have their own kids and wow i’m thinking too far. (It’ll be something like “Gossip Girl” just that not in that Elite lifestyle) – just wondering, what would be their children’s ideal family like?

Well off course there are some who live happily, I would say among my circle of friends so far, it’s a 50-50 kinda thing. Let’s see what happen later on in life. I’ll surely blog bout this =)

Decisions, decisions, decisions, and yes, life is full of decisions :) Good day’ People!
