Training 2009 – Presenting With Power

April 14, 2009 - 11:29 pm No Comments

It was a 2 days training or i should say a 1.5 days training instead, because the 1st day was a full learning and grasping session of what you should apply into your presentation, steps to prepare and organize your presentation and the PRESENT.  It is this abbreviation that I remember most throughout this whole 2 days training process.

P- Professional Presence

R – Rehearse, Rehearse, Rehearse

E – Engaging with your Audience

S – Hand Shake

E – Eye-contact

N – Navigation of your presentation

T – Take Away

And the most important part is how to overcome your fears and jitters before your presentation :) Why i say it is a 1.5 days is because another half of the day, was “us” the trainees doing a presentation! I have this problem of having butterfly in my stomach and jitters before and at the beginning of every presentation i make and a few tips on how to overcome is given.

1) Carry something small with you – in your pocket / hold it with you before the presentation – Example: paper clip. Imagine Transfer all your fears, burdens, nervousness, whatever bad into that small little paper clip. (That is why you see speakers having one of their hands always in their pocket :) )

2) Before the presentation – Say to your self – “My Big ME Wants to Speak and the Small me will keep Quiet” Repeat it up to 20 times in your head or better still say it out loud, so that your sub-conscious mind will shut-up.

3) Worst come to worst, when during a presentation you feel stuck and can’t go on anymore and need a short little break – Ask Questions, example: I give you 2 minutes, to think of this scenario, give a question that your audience can imagine and engage into the topic that you are about to speak. Or I give you 5 minutes and discuss among yourselves “what is the bla bla bla” a question to help them understand further. Meanwhile you can calm yourself down and take a deep breath on how to continue with your presentation.

Overall, I would say I have learnt much and till then practice makes perfect to overcome whatever fears you have and my sharing session will come next Tuesday for me to share and present what I’ve learnt, so i guess is the best outcome of this training ;)

The speaker was Mr. Murphy Lum, from a technical background, very good technically, but very shy and keep avoiding public presentation till he could not avoid it anymore. And to move up in career we are sure at some point in time more and more presentation skills are needed, be it a technical manager or PR manager, presentation skills are fairly important in this century’s career progression.

Visit to my Po-po’s

April 11, 2009 - 10:54 pm No Comments

In view of the “Cheng Beng” festival, whereby it is the time of the year where Buddhist goes to the cemetery to pray, visit, offer offerings to the gods to continue protecting and take good care of those rested in peace. I also got to know that for Buddhist, there are a certain time to go and one should not go pray / visit more than once and also there are certain rituals practices to comply to.

However in this modern day contacts, I am not sure how many young people would know all the rituals unless they have been practicing it year in, year out following their parents practices. Even if they do, would they know the logic behind it?

For me it is a time of remembrance of your loved ones whom you have much loved, live life with, and reminiscence on good times spent during the person’s live on this earth. It has been a few weeks that I heard is “Cheng Beng” and I asked my mom if we needed to go put some flowers on my Grandma’s cemetery as a sign of remembrance to her. As Christians, things are pretty simple and straight forward, what’s important is the sincerity from the heart and the time spent to just go pay a visit and replace the old flowers. I believe she is now watching us from heaven above and having a better life there than here on earth. Where heaven have no tears and no pain. So this afternoon, I bought some daisies and chrysanthemum along the way preparing for a visit to the PJ Christian cemetery.

My simple flower arrangement, looks pretty fresh and brightens up the environment isn’t it? hehe :) Just realize i bought too many and the left overs were brought back home for simple dining table deco. (I realize I am turning to become a more homely person, would love to cook and bake some day :P ) It was also in conjunction with Good Friday and Easter, it reminds me that our life on earth is just temporary and we will one day be reunited with God with our heavenly bodies while our body on earth will turn back to dust and fade away.

One thing i realize looking at the photos i took this afternoon, is that, my grandma is also “staying” at house number 21! Which she was supposedly shift in with us to our Subang house on Nov 2006, but sadly she didn’t make it through. Being there made me realize how time past so quickly and she has been gone for more than 2.5 years now. Our last visit was about 6 months ago, during the 2 year anniversary.

PC Fair – April 2009

April 10, 2009 - 11:01 pm 1 Comment

Believe it or not, if my memory did not fail me, this is my first visit to Malaysia’s PC Fair! The crowd is crazee…It took me an hour to get to Etiqa building to look for Jackfrom TPM. My first time taking this route, Sri Petaling Star LRT -> Masjid Jamek -> Putra LRT – KLCC -> Etiqa building = 1 hour 10 minutes!!! It rained and a little drizzling when i finally got to Etiqa and place my laptop bag there :) At the Masjid Jamek – Putra LRT, it was really crowded with homo-sapiens! It has been a long time since i’ve taken Putra LRT and now they have lines forming a homo-sapien jam! (Listening to Flo-rida – Hand in the Ayer….Oh hot damn, this is modern JAM!)

Enjoy the night drizzle view of Twin Tower from the big pantry, have a piece of peach cake and a cup of Ceres juice. Compliments of Quintiq lounge :)

From my last trip to the office, there have grown quite alot, in terms of the number of employees and the best thing is that people there are very friendly! The same goes to their office in Amsterdam and best of all their pantry has lotsa goodies…hehe…from fruits, drinks, and chocolates! Ops, before i go out of topic…i was suppose to be talking about PC Fair!!

So last week, we bought a LCD monitor, and this time around to get the All-in-one printer, which we find a fax at home will make things much more convenient ;) But instead Jack already bought his gadget that he way eyeing on last week. But again, this was a good bargain! Damn…spending alot these days :P – Blame it on the sales! haha… :D

My Book Home Edition - 1TB!

Whoa all the technical languages I am talking about, its part of a learning process and keeping updated with the latest technology. But thanks to Jack I have someone to ask and explain to me in layman terms ;) Thanks babe!

Cool!

Cool!

But afterall is a cool gadget isn’t it? This would enable him to keep more datas, videos, photos, movies, songs…”never needed to delete again” that was their tagline.

Financial Principles

April 6, 2009 - 11:51 pm No Comments

Some good tips from Warren Buffet on financial principles:

Spending: If you buy things you don’t need, you’ll soon sell things you need.
Savings: Don’t save what is left after spending; spend what is left after saving.
Hard work: All hard work brings profit; but mere talk leads only to poverty.
Laziness: A sleeping lobster is carried away by the water current.
Earnings: Never depend on a single source of income.
Borrowings: The borrower becomes the lender’s slave.
Accounting: It’s no use carrying an umbrella, if your shoes are leaking.
Auditing: Beware of little expenses; a small leak can sink a large ship.
Risk-taking: Never test the depth of the river with both feet.
Investment: Don’t put all your eggs in one basket
